A challenge like no other - From Winter to Fall 2012, we will take you on a wild and fun adventure that will both grow and challenge your mental strength and physical abilities. Participants will complete all four of this year's selected outdoor competitions in Big Bear. In 2012 we have Conquer the Bear, Conquer the Cub, and our newest category Conquer the Grizzly for the over 50 crowd, making Conquer the Bear a fun challenge for all levels of competitors. All three categories will have a men’s and women’s category. Just choose your challenge, grab a friend and you’re in. The top male and female who Conquer the Bear will split a $1000 cash prize. Trophies will be awarded to the top Conquer the Bear, Conquer the Cub, and Conquer the Grizzly finishers and every finisher will receive a special prize.

Challenge #1 - a snowy intro - Feb 25

Snowshoe the Bear

The 5th annual Snowshoe the Bear 5k and 10k challenge. Demos, live music, pre/post race party. It's certain that the 2012 event will be one of the biggest snowshoe competitions in the U.S. Saturday February 25, in the Village of Big Bear Lake, competitors will embark on a snowy 5k or 10k course. Conquer the Bear and Conquer the Grizzly challengers must complete the 10k event and Conquer the Cub challengers must complete the 5k event. A total cumulative time will create the rankings for both Conquer the Bear and Conquer the Cub.

Challenge #2 -the perfect storm – July 7-8, 2012

Big Bear PaddleFest

Your next challenge is the 5th annual Big Bear PaddleFest - a weekend long kayak, canoe and stand up paddleboard event with vendors, clinics and demos, live music and post race party that culminates on Sunday with a 5k, 10k or 20k (complete lap around Big Bear Lake) kayak and canoe competition. Conquer the Bear and Conquer the Grizzly challengers must complete the 20k course on a solo boat and Conquer the Cub Challengers must complete the 5k course on a solo boat. Competitors can use canoe, kayak or SUP. It all happens July 7 and 8 at Meadowpark on the shore of Big Bear Lake.

Challenge #3 -pedal the pavement – August 4, 2012

Tour de Big Bear

Your next challenge is the 3rd annual Tour de Big Bear - It just doesn't get any better than this. Competitors will ride the scenic roads surrounding beautiful Big Bear Lake. Conquer the Bear, Conquer the Cub and Conquer the Grizzly challengers wiill complete a designated road course.

Challenge #4 - it's a wrap – Sep 8, 2012

Endure the Bear

And Finally, The B I G G I E - Endure the Bear - Endurance Trail Run on September 9. The end of your challenge will be to complete the Endure the Bear Trail Run which features a 5k, 15k, 30k and 50k run/walk, live music and post race party. Big Bear trail running offers the toughest challenge of the year. Combine high altitude, and big hills and you'll find a course that challenges every level of runner at every distance. Conquer the Bear challengers must complete the 30k course. Conquer the Cub challengers must complete the 5k run/walk. Conquer the Grizzly challengers will complete the 15k course. Challenge #4 will definitely thin out the field of Conquer the Bear challengers.

Just Do It! 
Challenge the Bear and you are in for great perks. You'll receive VIP treatment at every event, discounts on lodging, and restaurants, start-line call-ups and more. Conquer the Bear, Grizzly or the Cub and you'll be famous. You will receive a very special Conquer the Bear/Cub/Grizzly package that will have you styling and claiming your bragging rights wherever you go. The overall Conquer the Bear champions will be the man and woman with the lowest combined time and these two champions will share $1000 cash prize.

Conquer the Bear must complete all 4 events. Snowshoe 10k, Road Bike (Long Race Course TBD), Paddle 20k and Trail Run 30k. No tandem kayaks allowed in CTB. The male and female with the fastest cumulative time of all 4 events will be named the winner. No substitutions allowed. Awards at each event will be given to the fastest CTB participants and the overall leaders.

Conquer the Cub must complete all 4 events. Snowshoe 5k, Road Bike (Short Race Course TBD), Paddle 5k and Trail Run 5k. No tandem kayaks allowed in CTC. The male and female with the fastest cumulative time of all 4 events will be named the winner. No substitutions allowed. Awards at each event will be given to the fastest CTB participants and the overall leaders.

Conquer the Grizzly must be 50 or over as of 12/31/12 and complete all 4 events. Snowshoe 10k, Road Bike (Long Race Course TBD), Paddle 20k and Trail Run 15k. No tandem kayaks allowed in CTG. The male and female with the fastest cumulative time of all 4 events will be named the winner. No substitutions allowed. Awards at each event will be given to the fastest CTB participants and the overall leaders.
